Home photography studio
If you want to start up your own home photography studio then you need to know all the relevant information before
doing so. Here are some examples of things you will need to know and do when setting up your own home studio initially;
- Type of studio - You will need to establish what kind of studio you want to have either digital or traditional film photography based or a combination. Usually people have a degree or some kind of qualification in one or the other style, however, many courses are now integrating the two into one qualification. As many photographers are tending to go towards digital photography as there is now in some cases no difference to be seen within the quality of photographs taken on a digital camera or film camera, the only difference being the developing process which is a lot simpler with digital photography as there isn't really any development process. Another advantage with the digital photography is that most if not all professional photographers now have display screens so it is possible for them to see the final image before printing it off this can help them capture the perfect picture for the subjects. When deciding on a home studio you need to think about where you will have it in your home and if your home is big enough to accommodate all your equipment, most people tend to have the studio situated at the top of their house so they have plenty of natural light to work with, so
this could mean converting your loft and having special skylight windows installed. If you were to do this it would ensure you have plenty of space for all your equipment including lighting, camera stands, backgrounds etc.
- Development area - this is mainly required thought if you are having a traditional film based studio. This is because when developing a traditional film you will have to have a separate dark room area for you to develop the images in. So this may mean taking a section of the space ideally in a basement or area similar as this would be the darkest and therefore best place to have your dark room for developing your films. You don't really need any extensive specialist equipment to have a dark room in your house so long as you have something to block out all natural light, the right light bulbs for that work to be carried out and all the development chemicals it is very simple to do.
